Antique Embroidered Panel Leather Backpack

325.00

Leather backpack with an old handmade embroidered panel from the Hmong tribe of Northern Thailand.

The embroidered textile was originally made by a mother awaiting the arrival of her baby. It was then used as a carrier for the newborn baby, as is the tradition in the Hmong tribe.

Deep red cotton background with silk embroidery threads in shades of pink and ochre. Motifs are depictions of nature – butterflies, birds, flowers, and insects. They signify a welcoming of good luck and protection.

The front border around textile panel and back of the backpack are a beautiful deep brown leather. Leather straps and ties at top.

One interior pocket.

Because this is made from an old textile, dating to the 1960's, there are visible signs of wear and fading which are indicative of a long history. These imperfections add to the beauty and value of the piece.
